What’s the best way to stop people from spitting on roads? The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has carried out anti-spitting drive in the city. The drive is aimed at creating awareness about the ill effects caused due to spitting. Those who were spitting on the road were told to clean the road. The drive was conducted across the city.
The civic officials including sanitary inspectors conducted the drive. They were assigned different locations to keep a watch. The civic administration has been carrying out such drives for last one year. They are being conducted as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission drive launched by the Government.
The drives have been taken on roads and also in the premises of public properties like PMC headquarters and other government offices. The civic body has also imposed fine on such offenders. The action is taken as per the provisions of municipal acts and solid waste management and sanitation rules of PMC. Fine of Rs 180 is imposed for spitting on the road.
“The drive was discontinued for a while due to some practical issues. It has been restarted now. Help of staff from the local ward offices is also taken to make the drive successful," said a senior civic official.
