Kolkata Metro is also gearing up to get back on track with proper measures in place. Kolkata Metro is focusing on online smart card recharging system to avoid crowds at the ticket counters at stations.
Posters will be distributed among commuters and displayed at the stations showcasing steps to recharge metro cards online. Delhi Metro which is the biggest metro lines in the country already has an online card recharge system in place which is used extensively. Kolkata Metro also wants to encourage customers to recharge online while sitting at home so social distancing norms can be followed at the ticket counters.
Kolkata Metro commuters can recharge their cards online by visiting the Metro Railway, Kolkata, website and clicking on 'online recharge' option. The recharge can be done after filling out basic information from the card. The online recharge system was launched by Kolkata Metro on June 30 this year in partnership with SBI.
"So a commuter can sit at home and recharge his smart card using debit or credit card of any bank, for which no bank charges will be levied," a Kolkata Metro official Told Times of India.
Majority of commuters using Kolkata Metro prefer to recharge their cards or buy tickets at the ticket counters at stations. However, in a COVID-stricken world, it is important for the organization to try and reduce crowds at the stations.
