The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has proposed 70 projects with an estimated expenditure of Rs 29 billion under the ‘Smart City’ mission, Municipal Commissioner G. Srijana said.
“As many as 22 projects wroth ?260 crore have been completed and 26 more with an outlay of Rs 5.7 billion are under progress. The works include 24x7 water supply, sewerage, smart streets, green space development, shore protection and beachfront development,” she said.
Referring to the cost sharing, Srijana said the State and Central governments have allocated Rs 5 billion and funds would be mobilised through various means to complete the remaining projects.
“The government has released Rs 3.4 billion. Smart City projects have been undertaken after the city emerged eighth in the first all-India Smart Cities Challenge in 2016.
