With all the glitter and shine, India’s newly found tech hub, Telangana, is all set to host the country’s smartest conclave ever—SMART URBANATION—from March 22 to 23, 2018 in Hyderabad. What’s more! The conclave is backed by India’s original tech-giant State, Karnataka and organized by the Smart Cities Council India (SCC).
This year for #SmartU18 (the Twitter handle for SMART URBANATION), a lot of new countries, cities and States are supporting this endeavor. SCC is aiming to invite the best of technologies and companies to showcase their prowess for India gearing towards the missions of Smart Cities, Digital India and Clean India.
#SmartU18 in a nutshell
Being a two day convention-cum-exhibition, #SmartU18 will provide a number of opportunities for its participants. The conclave-cum-exhibition includes an exhibit area for smart solutions, display area for cities to showcase their progress, start-ups to demonstrate their innovative solutions, and workshops conducted by international experts. Speakers from all over the world will converge to speak on topics ranging from energy efficiency to waste management, mobility, smart technology and many more.
Workshops will be conducted to train municipal officials in project management, municipal finance, procurement and so on. Along with host States as partners, #SmartU18 is backed by NASSCOM, Incubate India, Startup India, Invest India, National Institute of Urban Affairs, Builders’ Association of India, Asian Security Professional Association, ISHARE, and All India Institute of Local Self Government.
Smart Projects Awards
In a quest to encourage urban local bodies, SCC has partnered with Deloitte to facilitate Smart Project Awards. This award, backed by stringent methodology and well-qualified jury members, will find the highest citizen benefiting projects completed in India.

These projects could have been completed through the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) program or through the municipal corporation, Smart Project Awards is focused on which projects helped the citizens the most.
SPV CEO Awards
Formation of an Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) is the formalisation of the Smart City Plan Project under the guidance of a board and a CEO’s stewardship. A vote hosted on twitter, the nation’s top SPV CEO’s, will undergo a popularity vote from the citizens under the “Vote for your city CEO” campaign.
Innovation Hub Awards
The Start-up wave in India has caught an incredible wind and is not going down anytime soon. This award is meant for those Start-ups who have created the most innovative solutions for cities. Powered by NASSCOM, this award will be thoroughly vetted by eminent jury members, to find the one winner, who will be able to present its solution at Smart Cities Week Silicon Valley or CommunicAsia 2018 in Singapore.

Startup Innovation Hub
Spotlighting innovation and entrepreneurship, SCC is also organizing Startup Innovation Hub with the aim to convert urban challenges into opportunities. Startup Innovation Hub will work as a platform for the startups and technology leaders to showcase their innovative technology, apps, that will drive execution of smart cities in the coming years. If you have any innovative solutions for smart cities under Smart Energy, Smart Mobility, Smart Waste Management and several others, then this is the platform to get noticed.
