The city of Rajkot has emerged as one of Gujarat’s hi-tech city in technological development and innovation. The city has established its position as a pioneer in implementing numerous “smart” initiatives in areas ranging from transit, e-Governance, solid waste management to water supply, and many more. Additionally, Rajkot has been selected among the top 100 smart cities in India for which it receives funding from the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) for projects under its smart city proposal.
That said, to enhance the safety and security, improve efficiency of municipal services and promote a better quality of life for residents, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC)—under the pan-city surveillance initiative—has deployed 'Rajkot Eye Way' project. The project will consider public safety, surveillance, traffic management, public services along with tracking municipal solid waste, environment pollution, drainage and water levels in dams for early flood warning on a real-time basis. The project is a joint venture between RMC and Rajkot Police.
The project will provide high quality, reliable and cost-effective infrastructure for surveillance, parking, traffic monitoring, environment sensing, digital boards, WiFi hotspots and high-speed connectivity.
Through this project, both RMC and Rajkot Police will keep an eye on the city through a network of 500 CCTV high resolution cameras that can be controlled from an Integrated Command & Control Centre (ICCC) at Nava Mava. A total of 128 cameras, alongwith special additional 18 cameras will capture 360-degree view from strategic locations. That apart, an Automatic Number Plate Recognition System (ANPRS) and Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) will also be in place.
Amongst a few more initiative, RMC will be deploying Geo Fencing technology, where in sensors will be placed near open civic land so that nobody can encroach upon it.
