The Telengana Government has issued an order to sanction Rs 50 crore to the Warangal Smart City Mission. According to the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC), Rs 37.64 crore against the proposal of Rs 87.64 crore were already sanctioned by the government. The State government sanctioned Rs 50 crore for the Smart City Mission issuing administrative approval to the Telangana Urban Finance Infrastructure Development Corporation (TUFIDC).
The Government had identified Warangal as one of the 100 cities to participate for the smart city challenge. In this context, the GWMC is in the process of preparing the Smart City Proposal. The GWMC seeks valuable suggestions of the citizens to formulate the vision for the Smart City Warangal.
Warangal is one of the two metropolitan cities in the Indian state of Telangana. It serves as the district headquarters of both Warangal Urban District and Warangal Rural District. Warangal is the second most populous city in the state, with the first being state capital, Hyderabad. In 2011, Warangal had a population of 830,281 and an area of 406 km2.
