After months of delay, finally on 20 September, 2015, Navi Mumbai got its first set of nine e-toilets. The civic body was planning to set-up 14 e-toilets in the first place. Depending on how the project goes on, NMMC plans to open 100 such e-toilets in Navi Mumbai.
For now, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has constructed nine e-toilets at strategic locations across the town, under its Swacch Navi Mumbai Mission - eight e-toilets are installed on the Thane-Belapur Highway and one at the Uran Junction.
According to news report, the nine e-toilets are located at Pavane Uddanpool, on the skywalk opposite Zydus Company, Mahape skywalk, MIDC bus-stop, Reliance Corporate Park, Talavali Naka in Ghansoli, near Rabale Police Station, Siemens Company in Airoli and Uran Junction in Belapur, Sector-15.
e-toilets (electronic toilets) are fully automatically functional, with the door opening on insertion of Re coin, automatic lights, water flush, and tank refill and auto-cleaning process.
An NMMC official as quoted as saying – that the door opens on insertion of Re 1 coin, it auto flushes and door closes after the user leaves it.

An e-toilet is an electronic public toilet which is capable of self-cleaning, self-flushing and is of low maintenance.
