New Town Kolkata could be the first city in West Bengal to get a smart fuelling zone. The states petrol pumps, will have additional facilities such as recharge of electric-run vehicles, Wi-fi hotspot and electronic surveillance system.
The zone has been planned to be set up on a 2,000 sq m area in Action Area III, close to important commercial and residential complexes, such as Unitech, Rosedale, Sukhobristi and Arts Acre, according to a news report by Times of India.
"The plan is to have a fuelling zone that will have smart utilities and Wi-fi hotspots," said chairman-cum-managing director of the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) Debashis Sen to the newspaper.
He added that the authorities would soon float tenders to invite bids for the project that was planned in the board meeting held last week.
The proposed project seems in-line with the government strategy to develop Kolkata as a smart city. The township, along with neighbouring Salt Lake (Bidhannagar), Durgapur and Haldia has recently been included in the Centre's Smart City scheme.
