Is white light just a choice of colour, or more? Increasingly under scrutiny, outdoor lighting has a crucial role to play in the safety and security of our streets and public places and in the proud illumination of historical landmarks and buildings.
Today, outdoor lighting has to be smarter to comply with new legislation, environmental challenges and requirements to reduce energy usage. This is where the latest outdoor white light solutions from Council’s lead partner GE come into play.
Meanwhile, carved out of Tata Steel from its Town Services Division in 2004, Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (JUSCO) is India's only comprehensive urban infrastructure service provider.
The company's mandate is to convert an obligatory service into a customer-focused, sustainable corporate entity. One of its businesses is called Integrated Township Management, which involves providing civic and municipal services in an integrated manner to the residents of Jamshedpur.
JUSCO is known for its ‘Green City’ initiative for Jamshedpur. It realised the advantages that LED street lighting can offer in terms of lower operating and energy costs, coupled with low vertical light distribution and better colour rendering qualities.
The company decided to upgrade its street lighting from conventional sources to energy-efficient LED lighting.
PALM to the rescue
After a thorough technical analysis, it didn’t take JUSCO too long to be impressed with GE and its PALM street lighting product line. In place of the existing 250 W HPSV conventional light source, GE upgraded 400 numbers of 130 W LED streetlights, helping JUSCO achieve savings of 54 per cent.
PALM offers a highly effective and efficient lighting solution for streetlight applications. It is offered in variants of 110 W, 130 W, 150 W, 180 W and 210 W. PALM has also been designed for effective thermal management. With its remarkable styling features, optimum light quality and light distribution, PALM produces a splendid outdoor lighting effect. PALM also offers mounting flexibility in both horizontal and vertical positions, through its specially designed pole mounting adapter.
It has a specially designed Micro Vent (rated at IP69) which helps prevents accumulation of moisture and other micro-particles within the housing. Its driver can also accept a wide variety of input voltages, making it ideal for the harsh Indian environment.
