From the available list of 11 consulting firms, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) had short-listed four consulting firms before finally selecting AECOM India in association with AECOM Asia Company for assisting its city in securing a place in the top 20 cities in the Smart Cities Challenge.
According to media reports, the GVMC had short-listed four firms - CRISIL Risk and Infrastructure Solutions in association with PriMove Infrastructure Development Consultants, Srei Infrastructure Finance in association with Navayuga Spatial Technologies, Lea Associates South Asia in association with Crux Consultants and VBSOFT and AECOM India in association with AECOM Asia Company.
The firm was selected at the meeting of the technical committee held at the GVMC office on 14 September, 2015.
A Times of India report quoted the GVMC commissioner Pravin Kumar as saying "We have selected AECOM for the city's participation in the Smart City Challenge. We will issue the work order to AECOM following a formal confirmation from the state government."
AECOM reportedly bid for Rs 88 lakh for the assignment as against Rs 40 lakh quoted by GVMC in its Request for Proposal (RFP).
