The Nireshwalya Government School in Mangaluru will soon be declared as the first Smart School under the Smart City Mission. The Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) had commenced the smart school project in 13 schools. The MSCL had earmarked Rs 11 crore for the purpose. The project has been completed at the government school in Nireshwalya in the city by providing smart classes and other infrastructure. By the end of May, all 13 identified schools will be made smart schools, said MSCL managing director Mohammed Nazeer.
The Smart School project is being implemented in 13 schools of eight wards that come under the area-based development scheme of the MSCL. Schools are being provided with information and communication technology solutions and other infrastructure through the project. While the project is complete in Nireshwalya School, the work is nearing completion at the government school in Pandeshwara in the city, Nazeer said, adding that the project will be completed in all the 13 schools by the end of May.
Work is under progress at other Government Higher Primary School (GHPS), Car Street, Basti Garden, Hoige Bazaar, Government Practising High School, Balmatta, Government Secondary School, Balmatta, Bolar and GHPS Bolar West. Works including repair of school buildings, construction of compound walls, playground, water supply facilities, and building toilets are also being taken up through the project.
