Funds released for ‘Smart Cities’

The Ministry of Urban Development released Rs 200 crore for each of the 98 cities which have recently been nominated under the ‘Smart Cities’ Mission.

‘The money would be credited to the state accounts today,' announced a ministry official.

Releasing the release order for the funds in the presence of Mayors, Municipal Commissioners and other ULBs, Minister Venkaiah Naidu urged,' Use this money to create your city development plans and use this wisely. City leaders will have to be proactive and create an atmosphere of confidence among the citizens that their city is indeed set for a renewal. The path is difficult and therefore we need the ULB leaders to be dynamic.'

Minister Venkaiah Naidu presided over a regional workshop as part of the capacity building program amid ULB leaders from 40 cities.

Minister of State Babul Supriyo, Madhusudan Prasad, Secretary, Dr. Sameer Sharma, additional secretary were among the others who participated in the workshop. Training videos of experts were provided by 'Smart Cities Council India' for the regional workshop.
