Puducherry, formely know as Pondicherry and profoundly known as Pondy, is a Union territory of India. The town Oulgaret in Puducherry has been shortlisted under the government's '100 Smart Cities' Mission.

According to media reports, last week a 31-member French delegation, led by Ambassador Francois Richier met the Puducherry government officials under chairmanship of Lok Sabha MP R Radhakrishnan.

At the meeting it was decided that France in collaboration with the Union Territory will develop Puducherry as one entity by converging the Smart City, AMRUT and Heritage schemes with active participation of the foreign country.

A New India Express report quotedRadhakrishnan  as saying that, “Puducherry being a small city cannot be developed in parts as every aspect from drinking water supply, electricity, sewage  and others were connected”.

French is one of the official language in Puducherry given its history of colonial rule in the region.

Meanwhile in other news, the Janata Dal (United) has requested the Centre to release a special package of subsidies and incentives to industrial entrepreneurs setting up units to adequately rehabilitate unemployed youth.
