The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has recently launched the ambitious DigiThane application, an interactive digital citizen platform, to connect residents with civic services like tax payments, civic project alerts, in addition to getting discounts at affiliated shops, restaurants, and certain housing projects across the town.
With this, TMC has become the first in the country and second in the world after Tel Aviv Jaffa, Israel, to have an online interactive connection between the local government and the citizens. The application is known to have seen around 1,000 downloads within the first few minutes of its launch. The application entails providing civic facilities on the digital platform for residents.
Users can remain updated about upcoming roadblocks or developmental works undertaken in their respective areas and also pay taxes or register complaints about potholes or any other civic facility in the TMC jurisdiction. In addition, residents can also avail of discounts offered by traders, including hotels and the real estate industry from across the city. Information about upcoming events will also be available to users.
Citizens can download the application on their smartphones and register their mobile numbers and email identities after filling up other details. Simultaneously, a Digicard can also be used for making payments for several services and availing discounts at select city-based outlets only.
