Pod Taxi
Transportation is an unsolved issue in the city of Bengaluru. The city has always struggled in providing last mile connectivity to its citizens. However, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), is working towards ease of traffic congestion and is working on Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) which will establish a network of pod taxis carrying passengers on elevated tracks and is aimed at overcoming last mile connectivity issue.
That apart, the project will also reduce traffic jams in the city considerably and will help in bringing down the pollution levels.
The BBMP has envisaged transiting around 15,000 passengers per hour at a maximum speed of 100 km. The entire project will be based on Design Build Finance Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) mode.
For this project BBMP has already invited expression of interest (EOI) and three international players – SkyTran Asia, JPods Inc and Ultra Fairwood India— had shown interest. Interestingly, this project will see solar-powered cars, running on overhead cables, transporting passengers in the city.
