With India’s Smart City Mission completing its second anniversary last month, a number of smart cities announced a slew of projects. One of them was Chandigarah. The Chandigarh Smart City Mission launched cycling track, Smart City operations centre, subway, smart parking and urban park under its pan-city development plan.
Meanwhile, under the area-based development (ABD) plan, the city authorities have initiated revitalisation of sector 17. Also, a number of projects were launched in sector 43 under ABD, which would take away 87 per cent of the smart city funds.
By December 2017, the city administration plans to make Chandigarh a cycle-friendly city. The city authority will be constructing a 90-km cycle track, touted to be the longest against its peers. At present, they have initiated a 9.2 km cycle track.
Having said that, to integrate utilities services such as water SCADA, solid waste management, mechanised cleaning of roads, bus transport solution, citizen portal solutions, an integrated command control centre has been launched. It is a Smart City Operations Centre, comprising smart analytic and artificial intelligence-enabled solutions, and will act as urban observatory and has integrated all the live smart city solutions of Chandigarh Smart city.
