Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada city—chosen among the first 20 cities in the first phase of the Smart City Mission—has [finally] shown some movement towards the mission. The city authority has appointed Sterlite Tech to serve as a system integrator for the smart city project, which aims to bring in transformational changes in the life of over 3.25 lakh citizens of Kakinada, through real-time governance and efficient delivery of citizen services.
The smart city related ICT solutions include command and control centre, CCTV surveillance, WiFi, automatic number-plate recognition, face detection, waste and disaster management, and other platforms. It seeks to bring together technologies including an IoT platform, LoRa-based city-wide wireless sensor network and disaster management systems.
Sterlite Tech said that it would design, build and manage the smart city mission with the help of a strong web scale, smarter optical transport network with optical fibre backbone.
